ChatGPT Codex Video Editor: a whole YouTube video edited in ChatGPT Codex
This is the same editor as “Claude Video Editor”, only prepared as a native skill for OpenAI Codex (codex-video-editor). You drop in the raw footage and Codex edits a finished long 16:9 video i shorts in 9:16. Everything renders with locally on your own computer the HyperFrames engine.
No tools you do not need. Just ChatGPT Codex.

What it does for you

- Trims the footage, removing pauses, silence, filler words and slip-ups
- Adds effects such as zoom and b-roll cutaways (photos under a free licence)
- Builds infographics in your colour palette (as code, not from a stock library)
- Creates a thumbnailwhich you edit with a single command
- Suggests 5 titles + an SEO description with a timeline and hashtags
You tell it at any moment what to change – only that gets corrected, not the whole render.
Installation (the easy way)
- macOS / Linux: unpack it and run
install-skill.sh– the skill lands in~/.codex/skills/codex-video-editor. - Windows: copy the skill directory to
%USERPROFILE%.codexskills(instructions in the PDF). - Then in Codex: “Use $codex-video-editor and edit this file: /path/video.mp4”.
Requirements
OpenAI Codex (the app or the CLI), Node 22+, FFmpeg + ffprobe, Python 3.9+ and around 10 GB of space (models, cache, renders). Runs on macOS, Windows and Linux. The HyperFrames engine and the transcription model download themselves on the first render.

I have ChatGPT on the cheapest plan and had never used Codex, I downloaded it to my computer and it runs beautifully! AI right now is something incredible, on average I paid an editor about 150 zł per video and 50 per reel, a serious saving! I asked it to match my colour scheme and it did it with one command, never mind that I had to tell the editor 15 times and one video could take him a week XD

Dead simple. I completely changed the concept and added extra effects, glitch for instance, in one sentence, and on the next edit it already remembered my preferences. More than that, in the same thread where it edited a 15-minute video for me I said it should make 10 reels of the best moments out of it, and it did that without a single correction. Brilliant!

Brilliant! The first video took an hour on my laptop (I went for a coffee, heh), then a few corrections and style changes, about 15 minutes, and now it makes a medium-length video the way I want on the first try, taking around 45 minutes, during which I am of course doing something else. I also have your Ads Auditor subscription and that does a great job too! Will there be discounts for regular customers? 😉 Looking forward to more really good things.

I went by the comment about the live stream above and decided to buy, and the price is absurdly low compared with the hours lost. I had been looking for something like this for a long time and found one, but for 499 €, and nearly bought it. I bought from you and can confirm: it made 40 reels out of 2.5 hours of material for me too, and they were well edited straight away. Do send it a screenshot of an effect from another video, it will reproduce it without trouble. Genuinely recommended.

Once you have edited the first video and want different effects, take a screenshot of such an effect, write to it what the effect involves and send it the screenshot, it will do that too. Great skill!
